Informative Essay Checklist

  • Does your partner have an attention-grabbing hook strategy?

  • Does your partner have a clear and concise thesis that responds to the prompt?

  • Did your partner introduce the text title and author in the introduction?

  • Does the body paragraph have a clear topic sentence?

  • Does the body paragraph have two strong pieces of text evidence?

  • Does your partner have a quote set-up for each quote that introduces context?

  • Is your partner\'s text evidence quoted and cited correctly?

  • Does your partner have thorough and insightful analysis that follows each quote? (NOT paraphrased text evidence)

  • Does the body paragraph end with a concluding sentence?

  • Is the body paragraph 8+ sentences?

  • Does the conclusion restate your thesis?

  • Does the conclusion tie back to your hook and/or leave the reader with something to think about?

  • Does the essay contain 3 vocabulary words?

  • Does the essay contain transition words?

  • Does the essay use formal language?

  • Is the essay written in 3rd person objective point of view?

  • Did you make a minimum of 5 comments to help your partner improve his/her writing?
