Argumentative Paragraph Checklist

  • Is there a clear claim the writer is making?

  • Is there a counterclaim to the claim?

  • Does the writer refute the counterclaim and gives reasons why?

  • Does the paragraph have two strong pieces of text evidence?

  • Are the citations cited correctly?

  • Does the paragraph end in a concluding sentence?

  • Is the paragraph 10+ sentences?

  • Does the conclusion relate to the claim?

  • Does the writer use any first person? If so, give suggestions on how to change it.

  • Did you check for spelling and grammar?

  • Is the paragraph in correct MLA format?

  • Does there a thorough analysis/explanation that follows each quote?
